Review of PolyBlok and the Other Vinyl Liner Swimming Pool Types for UK use

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Various Construction Features.

These are all shown in the following Table

Feature

Pool Kits

Masonry

PolyBlok Pools by Bluepools

Structural life

10 year maximum 20 years + 40 years

Structure Guarantees

None because only components are guaranteed and these are worthless if pool needs to be rebuilt

10 year decennale insurance in France

Provided by builder in the UK

10 year decennale insurance in France

Poor Soil or Bad Ground Risk

Very high because pool kits are designed on the assumption that ground conditions are good Risk is low if builder knows enough to take account of any poor ground conditions Risk is negligible becasue of massive reserves of strength in the PolyBloK construction system

Ground Water Risk

Very high - pool walls are very prone to collapse if the pool is emptied with high ground water levels outside the pool Risk should be low if builder takes account of any ground water problem Risk is negligible becasue of massive reserves of strength in the PolyBloK construction system

Building pool on a Slope

Not possible because of internal water loading on pool walls Risk can be low if builder takes account of any out of balance loads PolyBloK system is ideally suited to building pools on very steep slopes

Building Pool in Clay Soil

Risk very high because pool kits are designed on the assumption that ground conditions are good Risk is low if builder knows enough to take account of any poor ground conditions Risk is negligible becasue of massive reserves of strength in the PolyBloK construction system

Risk of settlement around Pool

Virtually certain because of the method of backfilling required around pool Highly likely if pool builder does not install the ArconWall slabs of the PolyBloK pool system Risk of settlement is nil because of the ARConWall reinforced concrete support slab system

Wall Insulation

None None 100 mm minimum of dense polystyrene

Installation Problems

Likelihood is high in anything but ideal ground conditions The logistics of carting the concrete blocks to the pool site are always tricky Polystyrene blocks take a few minutes to move to the site and install. Concrete filling can be carried out slowly and steadily

Backfilling around pool

Must be undertaken with costly pea gravel that settles and holds water leading to deterioration of the soil strength around pool and eventual pool wall collapse Any back fill can be used but unless comnpacted properly settlement and cracking of the paving will occur around the swimming pool Any back fill can be used - settlement is entirely avoided by the use of the ARconWall reinforced concrete slab system

Landscaping around pool

Must take account of the fragility of the pool walls Must be taken account of by the pool builder No Restrictions
